It's time for a Road Trip!

This will be my last blog post for a little while. We will be leaving in a day or two to drive across country!

Yes, finally! We are outta here. California, you have a lot of great things but your bad things FAR out way and I'm sorry to tell you but we can't WAIT to leave you!

Back to the small town, slow pace community we love. No ridiculous inflated house prices. No traffic. Ahhhhh....the good life!

So, I may not post for a little while. But rest assured I'm sure I will have a LOT to catch up on when I'm back and logged on.

Like I said...a GREAT week! What did you get?

Free Magazines. A good thing or a very, very bad thing?

Ok, so it's been super fun getting magazines for free. I mean everytime I go to the store and see Women's Day on display I think "hey, I get that for FREE and you all are suckers!".

But can I really keep up with these? When am I going to have the time to read these?

I got the first of my Lucky Subscription a few weeks back that I haven't even OPENED yet and BAM! another came in the mail this week. That Oprah magazine I took a shot of in my Fabulous Freebies Received post? No, haven't opened that either. Transworld Snowboarding? No. My husband gets that one. Has it been read? I'm pretty sure not.

And then wouldn't you know it....Parents Magazine (you know, that FREE 2 year subscription) came yesterday. I have a PILE of magazines sitting on counter and now I'm feeling stressed. Oh and did I mention the All You magazine I get? (oh and yes, I paid for that one but it's SO worth it). I think it's got really good stuff in it but I never get to it fast enough to read it before I cut the coupons and once you do that, wouldn't you know but half the story you started reading and can't wait to finish when you turn to page 86 is only 1/2 there?

Ok, ok...it's good to get free things but is it hurting the planet? I mean how many trees had to die for all these magazines I'm getting? Is it worth me stressing over when I'm going to find the time to read ALL of these? I don't know. I'm at a loss.

Do you read all the magazines you subscribe to (whether free or paid)? And if so, how the hell do you do it? I gotta know....

P.S. Is anyone else getting a free subscription to TV Guide? I have no idea how this one came to be and I don't remember signing up for it but that sucker comes very week! Oy!

Bloggin'...

So my goal with this blog was to post every day because the I love when there's new and fresh things to on the blogs I read everyday.

Obviously this hasn't happened. Working full-time, mom to two (7 & 2) and running my ebay business means a lot to do and never enough time to do it all. But I'm trying. I feel that I have a ton of things to blog about and share and then the day is over. Darn!

I also haven't figured out how to see how many people view my blog. I think knowing that there are folks out there reading my blog would help motivate me! THIS is why I love Goodwill!

I haven't yet blogged about my love for thrift stores and of my tried and true favorite, Goodwill, but I definitely plan on it. However, I couldn't pass up this chance to share with you this AMAZING find this past Labor Day weekend!

These candle holders are gorgeous and go perfect with my dining room table. I knew I found something special and especially when I saw "Jan Barboglio" on the bottom. I had never heard of Jan Barboglio but knew by the quality of the handcrafting they were worth something.

So...I was right! A little googling and there it was. Jan Barboglio is a designer/artist who is inspired by the romance of historic Mexico. She creates decorative iron accessories and each piece is hand-cut, fashioned, forged, and finished to a tanned-leather luster. An embossed, etched signature is stamped. Best part??? I paid $2.99 EACH! Each of these candle holders retails for $88! What a great find and it's these kinds of steals that keep me going back!

Back to the Real World

After a brief hiatus from blogging and a FABULOUS trip away with my husband for my birthday...I'm back. What a bummer!

My husband is amazing. He planned an entire weekend trip SANS kids (yes that means NO kids!) for my birthday. (which is this Thursday by the way) He surprised me with not only the location we went but with flowers waiting in the room, dinners with friends and family...just planned it all from top to bottom. He is so good at these things and much better than I. I continue to learn from him and am so grateful and blessed that he is mine.

But it's back to the real world. Working. Being a mom. The daily grind. I can only hope we have the opportunity to have more weekends away together. It's not only fun but it's nice to talk to him and spend time with him without the kids tugging at us, yelling in our ear, talking over us and so on...would I trade that either? No way! I'm the luckiest girl in the world...an amazing husband and two wonderful kids. What more can you ask for? Life is good!!

Craigslist vs. eBay

So today I was asked how I sell things on craigslist and on eBay and that got me thinking. I really do think about where I can get the most money and try to be strategic about how to go about that.

CRAIGSLIST
It's free! Oh and did I say free?

There isn't a better place that delivers better and faster results than craigslist for certain items. I have sold baby stuff, clothes, electronics and more on there and have always, eventually sold it. Sometimes you have to be open to taking less and you should absolutely figure that in when deciding how much to list things for. Be reasonable but you also don't want to give it away for nothing unless actually you do and then you can list it under the stuff that is free on the site. If you are looking to make money for things in your house that you no longer use then you need to think ahead. What would you pay for it? Is it in good condition?

Take pictures, describe the item and upload up to 4 photos of the item for free. Bam! You are done. Don't forget that people search craigslist by keyword so make sure you have every key word that you can think of that would get people to your post. At the bottom I usually put, for example only, "keywords: kids, baby, infant, pottery barn, crate & barrel, mom, family, kid, gear, feeding, breast, etc." You get the idea...now wait for folks to email you wanting to buy your things!!

Ok, so this one has fees and depending on what your selling will depend on your fees. I'm no expert on ebay. I still have a TON to learn. I'm no powerseller or anything but I can definitely make extra money for us. There are things I put on ebay that just don't sell as well on craigslist and even if they did I know I could get more money. You get much more exposure on ebay to your things. For example, I listed a pair of Ugg baby boots (which I got at a garage sale for $1.00) and they sold for almost $20! NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! That's just one example. If you use paypal for your buyers to use to pay you then you get charged a nominal fee too. Keeping all of this in mind I usually add $2-3 as my handling fee to the price of the shipping/handling to cover my ebay and paypal fees. That way I don't lose money and someone is still getting a GREAT deal.

Now I know I mentioned about getting something at a garage sale and then selling it on ebay and that will be a different post. How to turn your passion for garage sales into a profit! Stay tuned...
